Before implementing any subscription solution, we relied on organic search, returning customers, and email newsletters to drive traffic and sales. However, many of our customers are price shoppers using search engines, so our primary retention strategies were exceptional customer service and consistent email outreach.

To keep customers coming back, we needed a way to make reordering seamless while providing an incentive to stay loyal. A subscription model allowed us to automatically ship products on a schedule that suited each customer’s needs, eliminating the hassle of reordering and offering savings in return for their commitment.

Customer retention is always a challenge when reselling another company's products, and without Seal Subscriptions, we simply wouldn’t have been able to offer recurring orders. Like many businesses, we’ve experienced some “Amazon-style” subscription churn—customers who subscribe for the discount and cancel after the first order. Subscriptions have also reduced last-minute, urgent orders. Before implementing them, we often received frantic emails from customers who had run out of their favorite supplements or protein powder and needed rush shipping. Now, they can plan ahead and avoid unnecessary shipping costs.

Additionally, the longer customer engagement window allows us to introduce new products, flavors, and recommendations they might not have considered with a one-time purchase.

4. What specific features of Seal Subscriptions have been most valuable to your business, and how easy was it to set up?

The Auto-Charging Subscriptions feature has been the most valuable. We’ve implemented a 2 / 4 / 6-week recurring model that works well for consumable products, making it easy for customers to maintain a steady supply of their supplements.

The Cancellation Requirements feature has also been a game-changer, preventing price shoppers from subscribing for a discount and immediately canceling. By requiring a minimum of two billing cycles, we ensure that customers genuinely understand the value of their subscription.

I was initially concerned that adding the subscription widget to our product pages would require coding or complex customization, but setup was seamless—far easier than expected.

5. Would you recommend Seal Subscriptions to other fitness businesses, and if so, why?

Absolutely. Seal Subscriptions is the ONLY Shopify app I would recommend for any store looking to implement recurring orders.
